Researchers Ioannis Kyprakis (MSc) and Dr. Stefanos Gkikas (PhD) from the Hellenic Mediterranean University and the Institute of Computer Science – Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (ICS-FORTH) participated in the AI4PAIN 2025 Challenge and Workshop, held in conjunction with the International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (ICMI 2025), under the supervision of Professor Manolis Tsiknakis.

The team presented three accepted papers, highlighting the lab’s cutting-edge research in physiological computing, affective modeling, and digital biomarkers for pain and stress recognition. Among these, the paper titled “Multi-Representation Diagrams for Pain Recognition” received an Honourable Mention for Most Innovative Paper.

The AI4PAIN 2025 challenge brought together 32 teams from 17 countries, featuring 20 high-quality submissions that pushed the boundaries of physiological-signal–based pain assessment. The event fostered innovation and collaboration in the field of affective computing and digital health, promoting methodological diversity and reproducible research.

Participation in AI4PAIN 2025 provided an excellent opportunity for our researchers to present novel methodologies, exchange insights with leading international teams, and contribute to the advancement of robust and explainable multimodal approaches to pain recognition.

We extend our warm congratulations to all participating teams and express our sincere appreciation to the challenge and workshop organizers for fostering open collaboration and innovation in this emerging domain.
